Lecture Notes

These lectures are presented in the frame of the physics department, the interdisciplinary Curriculum Computational Science and Engineering of ETH Zürich, and the Faculty of Science, University of Zürich. Emphasize is given to two points. First, the students should obtain a good insight into the various physical processes governing complex astrophysical systems. They should learn how to collect the single pieces and how to bring them together to build a computable model of a complex system. The students should then improve their computational skills. This is the intention of the students projects held parallel to the lectures. The students work in small groups on different computational projects for one semester. They present their results at the end of the semester in a student seminar. Some of the student projects are presented on the web (see the semester pages).

Scripts
Detailled scripts (in german) for two lectures have been worked out. These scripts can be copied and used for tutorials. They are subject to the copyright by the authors and shall not be printed, reproduced, or distributed on a commercial basis without the permission of the authors.
