Annemarie Schwarzenbach was born in 1908 in Zuerich. She studied history in Zuerich and Paris. From 1930 on she she was linked in friendship with Erika and Klaus Mann. From 1931 till 1933 she worked as an independent writer in Berlin. Between 1934 and 1941 she traveled through the Middle Eastern, Europe, and the United States. A journalist, writer, and photo reporter she died in 1942 in Sils.
